Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51M Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning contest where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51 million watchers across the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this marks the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday epic contest secured over 27 million audience members on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12M. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-match World Series drew 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete US viewership was over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million viewers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in 16 various languages.
