Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party enter locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.

Fans can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
